VT Young Masons Lodge Minutes - August 22nd 2011 - Bennington, VT
After a nice meal of local pizza and fresh greens from Marigold Kitchen in Bennington Young Masons Lodge #111 was opened in form at 7:34 pm with the following officers in their stations:

Chris Murphy - Chap. p.t.
Mike Reed - Marshal - p.t.
After a prayer and a pledge of allegiance to the national colors old business was reviewed. John Barney banquet planning was renewed and a committee set of Chris Allen, Alex Lehning and Errol Hinton to being planning for a time period around next year's Grand Lodge as it would be most appropriate to hold the dinner shortly after new awardees received their honor The committee is due to report back their intial planning, which might only include defining what the banquet is and who to honor at the next meeting.
Sec. Tobin Winters announced there would be a Lodge of Research meeting coming up on Sept. 20th at 467 Main St. in Orwell, VT. See http://vermontlodgeofresearch.com/Fellowship.htm for details.
W.M. Chris Allen announced his home lodge will be holding a Poker Night on Sept. 24th and Octoberfest on Oct. 28th to raise money. See http://washington3.org/ for details.
Sec. Tobin Winters announced he would like members of the Young Masons Lodge to fill the chairs in his District Meeting on Oct. 3rd in Woodstock, VT to promote the Young Masons Lodge. The members agreed and four brothers committed to attend on the spot. A practice was later set for the night before and confirmed with Woodstock Lodge.
The next Young Masons Lodge meeting will be held tentatively on Nov. 28th in St. Johnsbury. This needs to be confirmed with the brothers at St. Johnsbury.
At 8:00 pm the lodge was put at ease to install Bro. Alex Lehning as Senior Deacon as he was unable to attend the Annual Meeting. The installating officers were W.M. Mike Reed and Mar. George Deblon.
Immediately following, Bro. Chris Murphy of Bennington gave on of the most interesting Masonic education talks I have ever witnessed. He constructed a replica model of a Chamber of Reflection. He went in to the history of the Chamber of Reflection, where it showed up in paintings and depictions from around the 1800's forward. There was discussion about the symbolism the Chamber used and discussion on how it could be (and is) used today. A spirited discussion followed for a good 30 minutes at least.
At 9:05pm the lodge was closed in form.

The next Young Masons Lodge meeting will once again be in Bennington, VT on August 22nd. Dinner at 6:30 pm with the meeting to follow at 7:30 pm.

Meeting Minutes 5/21/11
Once again the Young Masons Lodge had quite a meeting! What really strikes me about this Lodge is you can count on alot of great discussion and good laughs. Getting to travel around and meet new Brothers is really something special.
We met in Northfield for our annual meeting which opened in due form at 7:45 pm.
It was immediately moved, seconded and approved that the sitting W.M. and Sec. be put on the Merchant's bank account to eliminate all the hassle we've been having with getting what few bills we have paid and dues deposited. The W.M. elect and Sec. agreed to meet in Barre that week to get their names put on the account.
At 8:00pm the regular meeting was suspended and the annual meeting opened for the nominating committee report. The nominating committee's report was read and a motion was made to accept the nominating committee's report and vote as one ballot. This was done and approved.
The annual meeting then closed and the regular meeting opened at 8:04 pm (might be a record).
The John Barney Award banquet dinner was discussed. It was agreed Brothers Error and Chris will pick a date and location before the next meeting and communicate the details (as in the dinner will occur before the next YML meeting).
The Lodge was put at ease at 8:11 and the Installation of Officers began. The following Officers were installed for the ensuing year:

Brother Errol Hinton made a nice comment before installing the new WM Chris Allen. Chris had been with the Lodge from the beginning and worked his way up through the chairs, working very hard for the Young Masons Lodge. His comment recognized this and conveyed that this was really a good part of what the Young Masons Lodge is all about. It gives Young Masons who are interested an opportunity to move through the chairs and gain experience that they might not otherwise have an opportunity to gain.
Our tentative meeting schedule for the rest of the year was discussed. These location and dates need to be confirmed with the respective hosting Lodges and would be followed up on by the newly installed WM Chris Allen.

Brother Errol Hinton encouraged everyone to attend Grand Lodge as a nationally known speaker Cliff Porter would be there from Colorado to give an exciting talk.
Brother Chris Allen shared that the District 5 Poker tournament would be coming up Aug. 6th and on July 39th there would be a trip to the National Heritage Museum coordinated by the Washington Lodge.
Brother Chris Allen then gave a very motivational speach about leadership, relevance and continued education that can occur beyond the Blue Lodge in appendant bodies like the Scottish and York Rites. It was a very interesting talk that clearly expressed his passion for Masonry and why he is so involved in various Masonic branches and activities.
The Lodge was then closed in ample form at 9:05 pm.

February Meeting Minues
February, 28th 2011
After sharing wonderful dinner prepared by the Brothers of Bennington’s Mount Anthony Lodge #13 the Young Masons Lodge #111 was opened in due form at 7:28 p.m.
A motion was made and seconded that because of the nature of the travelling Lodge and that members were from all over the state the Worshipful Master and Secretary (Chris Allen and Tobin Winters) needed to both be on the bank account.
A petition was read and accepted for Brother Alex Lenning of Washington Lodge #3.
A suggestion made by the founding M.W.P.G.M. Calvin Keyler was passed along by the W.M. Errol Hinton since he could not be in attendance to discuss the possibility of the Young Masons Lodge hosting a banquet honoring the recipients of the John Barney Medal. It was thought that we could have a speaker and possibly hold it shortly after Grand Lodge so this year’s recipients could be honored. A tentative date was set for the second Saturday after Grand Lodge, June 25th. Past recipients as well as friends and family would be invited to attend. The current year’s winners would not be charged for the meal. Brother’s Chris, Gary and Bob were set as the banquet committee
The next meeting was discussed. It is the annual meeting to be held on May 23rd in Northfield, VT. The elections and installation of officers would occur at that meeting. The election committee would coordinate the recommended slate of officers. The election committee is Brothers Tobin Winters, Jim Baril and Paul Mosher.
It was discussed that Brother Chris Allen would move to the East as the W.M. for the coming term and there was a need for him to take his Past Masters degree. W.M. Hinton direction the Secretary, Tobin Winters to contact the Secretary of the Past Master’s association in District #5 to see if they can schedule him in.
Brother Chris Allen spoke about the importance of having the new YML Officers at every meeting. They are the driving force of the Lodge and would make the Lodge more successful if we could get the continuity of having officers at most meetings.
Brother Tobin Winters suggested the YML could be a good source of promoting technology and the Internet for Masons in Vermont. He offered to put on a session that offered an overview of how to build a website using free or inexpensive online tools and link it to social networking sites like Facebook. A committee was formed consisting of Tobin Winters, Jim Baril and Errol Hinton to further discuss the idea.
The Lodge was then called at ease to hear a point/counter-point on the “one day classes” by Brother Chris Murphy. He gave detailed examples supporting his ideas ranging from Masonic ritual in the Monitor, to Anderson’s Constitutions, to the Regis Manuscript all the way up to the specific Charge To Candidate. A spirited discussion followed as Brother Murphy closed with “Wisdom is gained through reflection… which takes time.” It was truly a presentation to remember.
Shortly after the Lodge was closed in ample form at 8:56 p.m.

Next YML Meeting on Monday, November 29th at 6:30PM in St. Albans

Ladies at the Table on July 30th POSTPONED
Unfortunately, we've had to postpone the Ladies at the Table this month. We will be holding it in August and will communicate the date and location once it is finalized.

Ladies at the Table and Officer Installation - July 30th

Due to a scheduling conflict the Ladies at the Table scheduled for June 26th has been moved to Friday, July 30th at 6:00pm in Montpelier.
The cost will be $25 per person and the dress is casual.
I will be sending out a reminder in the dues notices next week. An RSVP is required. Please do so to me and you can pay at the door.

VT Young Masons Lodge Annual Communcation - May 24th
On May 25th the brothers of the Young Masons Lodge held their annual communcation at the Northfield Lodge. Many thanks to the brothers in Northfield for their continued hospitality.
After prayer and a presentation of the colors, the Young Masons Lodge #111 opened in due form at 7:45 pm with the following officers in their stations:

There was a discussion on the importance of laying out our yearly schedule and planning some events in advance to make this an exciting year for the Young Masons Lodge. The following tentative schedule was hashed out:
June 26th - Ladies at the Table and Officer Installation - Montpelier Lodge - 6:00 pm
August 30th - YML Meeting - 6:30 pm
November 29th - YML Meeting - 6:30 pm
February 28th - YML Meeting - 6:30 pm
Besides the upcoming Ladies at the Table, some possible events discussed were to hold an outdoor degree and offer to open for some of the district meetings this fall. Some lodges we thought to ask to use included Vergennes, Castleton and Bennington.
WM. Errol Hinton then gave a very informative discussion on the role of the Bible and other Religous works in Freemasonry, starting with the refernces to in in the Webb ritual that is so common in the U.S. to the diffferences in the Emulation ritual used elsewhere. He explained why different scripture references were used and how the Vermont ritual was unique in certain aspects of our ritual. He then expanded his talk to give us some insight on what he had learned about religion in Masonry on other parts of the world. It was truly educational in interesting.
Bro. Chris Allen announced Washington Lodge was holding a BBQ on Sunday June 27th.
There being no further business, the Young Masons Lodge was closed in due form at 8:30 pm.

He then expanded his talk to give us some insight on what he had learned about religion in Masonry on other parts of the world. It was truly educational in interesting.
Bro. Chris Allen announced Washington Lodge was holding a BBQ on Sunday June 27th.

VT Young Masons Lodge Annual Communication - May 24th
On Monday, May 24th the Vermont Young Masons Lodge will be holding their Annual Communcation.
The meeting will be held at the Northfield Lodge. A potluck dinner will be held at 6:30, please bring your favorite dish if you can. The Annual Communcation begins at 7:30 and includes the election and installation of officers.

The meeting is open to all Masons. Please bring a friend and introduce them to another facet of Freemasonry.

Young Masons Lodge Minutes - Nov. 23rd 2009
Young Masons Lodge #111 Minutes – November 23rd – Marble Lodge, Danby, VT
The Young Masons Lodge # 111 opened in form on the Second Degree of Masonry at 7:44pm on November 23rd, 2009 in Danby, VT at Marble Lodge #76 with the following officers in their stations:
W.M. pro tem MWGM Thomas Johnston, IV.
S.W. pro tem Shawn Brewster
J.W. Chris Allen
Sec. Tobin Winters
S.D. Adam Skiff
J.D. pro tem WGL George Deblon
S.S. pro tem David Young
Chaplain pro tem Chris Murphy
Marshall pro tem John Hoight
Tyler pro tem Bob Bryant
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
A second degree was conducted for two candidates: Donald Bowen and Alfred Clayton Jr.
Tobin notified the lodge that our web space and domain name needed to be renewed by the end of the year for a cost of around $100.00 and motioned we pay for this renewal. The motion was seconded and approved.
Tobin gave a brief summary of the Vermont Academy of Masonic Education and Knowledge (VAMEK). A committee has been formed to develop the program and he put a motion forward to share our web space with the VAMEK and another to buy a domain name for the site as way to show our support to the committee. Both motions were seconded and approved.
The next regular meeting with be on February 23rd. We wanted to meet in a central or Northern lodge. It was suggested we ask St. Johnsbury if they would be so kind as to let us hold our next meeting there.
W.M. Errol Hinton, who could not be present, passed along communication that he would like to hold a Table Lodge on April 9th.
A discussion was had about filling officer chairs in the Young Masons Lodge on a pro tem basis for the ensuing year and waving the age restriction. It was thought we needed a solid officer line present at most meetings to help build the new lodge and to waive the age restriction for this situation. The issue was tabled until the next meeting to get the Worshipful Master’s input.
Bro. Chris Murphy gave an inspiring and thoroughly enjoyable talk about the 47th Problem of Euclid. He described the problem and theory breaking down each piece of the symbology and relating it across lessons in each of the three degrees.
The Most Worshipful Grand Master addressed the lodge about the VAMEK and clarified its role as one of offering support to lodges, not of enforcement. The VAMEK is envisioned to be a resource for those brothers and lodges who want to take advantage of it.
With no other business, the lodge was closed in form at 9:42pm.

Next Young Masons Meeting
Join us for the next Young Masons Meeting on November 23rd at Marble Lodge #76 in Danby, VT. All Master Masons are welcome. We will be having dinner at 6:30 (RVSP to tobin.winters@gmail.com) and the meeting at 7:30pm. We will be conducting a 2nd degree for 2 candidates, hearing R.W. Errol Hinton give a talk on the 7 liberal arts and sciences and asking for opinions on the Vermont Masonic Academy as we start to develop it.
